Life goes by fast. So to stay ahead, we have to build faster.

Over the last century, we have experienced an incredible advancement of a wide range of building tools and technologies - including the upgrade from manual to automatic drywall tools.

At Intex we respect the rich history of all trades, and cherish the improvements that have been paved over the years.

The shift to automatic drywall and taping tools has had a massive impact on the industry, so let’s take a closer look at just how far we’ve come and what Intex is doing today to ensure plasterers stay ahead.

When And Where Did It All Begin?

In 1939, brothers Robert and Stan Ames changed the world of drywall technology from their small business out of Georgia, USA.

Heralding the first of many automatic drywall tools, the brothers released the Corner Shoe, which used pressurised air to apply joint compounds to seams. Then, in 1954, Robert officially invented the world's first automatic taper which applied compound and tape to seams and corners in the same motion.

Benefits of Automatic Taping Tools

It’s in our human nature to strive for excellence and always seeking to improve. In the early 1960’s, many of the Ames brother’s patent had expired, meaning tool manufacturers were given the freedom to continue to develop and improve the mechanisms that are used to install drywall.

As we have evolved over the years, tradies have seen enormous advancements in the kind of equipment they use to get walls built consistently better. Automatic Taping Tools not only provide a superior finish, but also reduce waste and eliminate use of unnecessary tools like sanding off excess compound. Not only that, but the advancement of automatic tools ensures that jobs get done quicker and more economically than ever before.

Where Are We Now?

A lot has changed in the last 70 years, but the principles remain the same. Installing drywall is a skill that takes time to learn and can take a toll on the body. This is why our range of automatic drywalling tools are so popular among those in the trade.

Regardless of operator speed, our TIX900 Automatic Taper dispenses the perfect amount of tape and compound simultaneously to any wall, corner joint, or ceiling.

Its long reach handle reduces the need for stools or scaffolding (not to mention a blessing for the back), and a high compound capacity that allows for fewer trips to the pump – needless to say, the TIX900 is at the cutting edge of automatic drywall sander technology.

Not only that, but Intex’s Automatic Taper’s lightweight and durable design has enlarged roller wheels to eliminate drag upon contact and a knurled sleeve which provides a sturdy grip – making user operation easier than ever.

Once the tape and compound has been applied, walls and ceilings must be sanded down for a smooth, professional finish. Our industrial power sander is designed to provide efficient and flawless sanding results, whilst extracting all dust that’s generated – making sure your clients come back to a spotless finished product.

At Intex we are committed to building excellence and strive to consistently find innovative ways to improve our tools.
