    What Is Plaster Compound?

    There are two main compounds when talking about joining plasterboard: plaster and joint compound. 

    A joint compound, also referred to as drywall mud, is a combination of gypsum dust and water, and forms a paste that matches the consistency of cake frosting. Whereas plaster compound is made up of a combination of gypsum powder, water, and sand to form a relatively thick paste.
